One of the reasons St. Augustine South residents enjoy living in our neighborhood is the natural beauty of Shore Drive – a four-mile long waterfront road winding though SAS.
Shore Drive waterfront parks are our pride and joy. Most of us don’t have the pleasure of opening our front doors and seeing the Matanzas River and salt marsh, but many of us regularly walk, run, cycle, or skate—alone or with friends, our children or dogs—along Shore Drive. As well as delivering beautiful views of the water, the parks also provide shade and cool breezes, and beautiful sunrises and moonrises.
Supported by the abundant oaks and other native vegetation, the waterfront parks are a bird-watchers’ paradise with osprey, bald eagles, woodpecker, bluebirds, cardinals, and jays. We also have barred owls, great horned owls, red shouldered hawks, and more.
Everyone appreciates the beauty of St. Augustine South along Shore Drive. We have boardwalks, parks, boat ramps, paths through woods, as well as the “beach” and park area in Lewis Point. With all this abundance, we have much to be thankful for, to enjoy, and protect for coming generations of neighbors and their children.
